Légué en 1956 à l'État français, l'Atelier de Brancusi a été par deux fois reconstitué : au Palais de Tokyo en 1962 puis au Centre Georges Pompidou en 1977. Il est présenté depuis fin janvier 1997 au sein d'une architecture renouvelée conçue par Renzo Piano. 144 sculptures, 86 socles et meubles sculptés, une quinzaine de moules, 38 dessins, quelque 1600 photographies centrées sur son travail de sculpteur, une riche bibliothèque et une importante discothèque témoignent de l'ouverture d'esprit de ce père de la sculpture moderne.
